Speaking up, speaking out!

“Our struggle has not been to emerge from silence into speech but to change the nature and direction of our speech, to make a speech that compels listeners, one that is heard.” bell hooks

Consider public speaking an opportunity to put your best self forward to capture attention. Then ask:

How often have you passed up job opportunities because they meant that you would have to do presentations?

How often have you asked others to speak for you when, in fact, you were the expert on the topic?

How often have you hidden in the background, wanting to be heard but afraid to speak up?

Public speaking is a performance, a way to put your best self forward in any given situation. This does not make what you have to say inauthentic, it simply means it simply means you have to hone your skills and practice your lives. Simply put, speaking out articulately takes effort. You have to be you on purpose and on command all the while communicating effectively.

Fear of public speaking is a number one fear for most but research has shown that women especially, have exceptionally large obstacles to overcome. As women, we are leading in new ways and learning to activate the power of our voice when conveying ideas and catalyzing action. However, a strong developing a “voice” or the ability to express ourselves is especially challenging.

We will explore:

  1. The why of public speaking: What is holding us back? Why is it important?
  2. The how: pointing to the skills of public speaking- making a speech, presentations, asserting yourself.

In this highly personalized workshop for leadership development, we devise strategies to strengthen our skills to communicate with increased confidence, clarity, and impact. Try new techniques to stretch beyond your comfort zone and understand what is holding you back.
