WISE’s 20th year anniversary

Organization for Women in Self Employment (WISE) is an Ethiopian residents’ charity registered with the Ministry of Justice in August, 1997. It commenced its full programme operation in January, 1998. WISE is dedicated to the development of women and girls in their efforts to become empowered, build resilient families, and emerge active players and beneficiaries in the development of Ethiopia.

Did you know that as Diasporas we sent more than $65 billion in remittances to the continent in 2016? What if just 1% of that remittance money was directed into a crisis relief and recovery investment fund? Act4 wants to move the conversation on giving from aid to investment. We want development in Africa to be shaped by Africans and her Diaspora. So we’re charging the Diaspora to Rise Up!

Beginning in August 2017, during Black Philanthropy month, we’ll begin raising more than $200,000 to provide aid for immediate hunger and humanitarian crises in the Lake Chad and Horn of Africa Regions and Sierra Leone. We’ll partner with NGOs on the continent to provide funds and resource support to assist in addressing emerging humanitarian and development crises. And for the long-term, we’ll recruit members of the diaspora for skills-based, pro-bono volunteering with our NGO partners. Congratulations to all AWiB WOE 2017

AWiB proudly presents the 2017 Women of Excellence (WOE) nominees. Every year as we celebrate outstanding Ethiopian Women who serve their communities and country tirelessly, this year, we bring you 5 magnificent women who have reached their summit. Their full story will be posted on October Focus and they will be celebrated on October 29, 2017 at a Gala Dinner held in Sheraton Addis.  To get closer to these women and catch their fever, we urge you to join us at the AWIB 2017 WOE Gala Dinner.

Are you afraid of an unfriendly environment to visit Hospitals to get reproductive health service? Visit MICHU Clinics; Welcoming Environment, Quality and compassionate Care with almost no payment.

The Center for International Reproductive Health Training (CIRHT) in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Health and ten partner University Hospitals are engaged on improving the quality of reproductive health(RH) services. Currently RH clinics have been established in 8 hospitals in response to the RH needs of the community. The clinics are named ‘MICHU’ which in Amharic means comfort, the word also acknowledges the high contribution of the University of Michigan in setting the RH system. The clinics are designed to give compassionate respectful RH care for women and couples. Prof. Senait Fisseha, the founder of CIRHT, with FMOH has taken a lead in enhancing the quality of medical school platform and the RH care service. Quality improvement is one of the initiatives of creating highly qualified health care providers.

Achieving An Intrinsic Purpose

AWiB Congratulates Meti on her new venture in the media business.

Metasebia Shewaye Yilma, a.k.a. Meti, has premiered her 2 television shows on LTV in April 2017; Let’s Go With Meti (???? ??? ??) and With Meti (??? ?? ). Meti’s travel and interview shows have started adorning the screens of LTV, the newest TV channel on NileSat (Frequency-11096 H, Symbol- 27500, FEC-5/6). 

Let’s Go With Meti (???? ??? ??) is an experiential travel show in which Meti explores like a tourist and experiences like a local to promote the concept of conscious travelling. Let’s Go With Meti (???? ??? ??) is a well-researched informative and adventurous travel series that exposes hidden gems, celebrates heritages, creates excitement and takes viewers off the beaten tracks. In the episodes, Meti is seen hanging out with locals, trying daring activities, uncovering least known features and telling other sides of stories. In the first two months, Meti will promote Addis Ababa for the foodies, history lovers, art enthusiasts, adrenaline junkies and shopaholics. In the following two months, Meti will take her audience to the outskirts of Addis for one-day-trips to show various places and activities that can capture the interests of diverse travellers. Then gradually Let's Go With Meti (???? ??? ??) will take the audience farther into Ethiopia as well as cross borders.

In the February issue of AWiB Effect, we would like celebrate togetherness with the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), that has been a solid AWiB partner since 2013, recommitting to the journey together in 2017. Established in 1942, CBE is a pioneering bank to introduce modern banking to Ethiopia. With more than 8.5 million account holders, CBE has since 2014 launched a special women’s account which entitle women to a higher interest rate than the convention interest rate.
